Internationally acclaimed rock and metal band Korn has hit reset.

The group is returning to its roots with its ninth album, “Korn III — Remember Who You Are,” with the same sound that shook rock and roll’s world in the middle and late 1990s.

Korn — to perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Island’s Heartland Events Center — has sold 30 million records worldwide and won two Grammys, and throughout its success has managed to maintain its “savage, raw energy.”

In order to achieve its “primitive Korn sound” for the album, the band recruited Ross Robinson, who produced its first two albums, “Korn” and “Life is Peachy.” They also recorded on two-inch tape in a 10-by-10-foot room, buried in the band’s Los Angeles studio, nicknamed “The Cat Box.”

“Ross, the guy who did our first two albums, he said he didn’t want us to record in a wide-open space. He wanted it super tight-knit, like we were teenagers again,” Ray Luzier, the band’s drummer and newest member said.

“It wasn’t about trying to recreate the old albums, it was more about the whole vibe, getting the full blown thing. We wanted to go back to a small room, get close, turn the air conditioning off, get that young and hungry vibe going.”

There was no tracking separately or heavy post-editing. They wanted their music to be honest and raw.

“Records are too perfect these days,” Luzier said. “You can make anyone sound perfect with computers.”

With this tour, Luzier said the band never lose its energy.

“Every show is pure fury and passion,” Luzier said. “I didn’t realize the magnitude and power this band has. To go to Russia and Dubai and South Africa and see fans with Korn tattoos and albums tattooed on their legs — they’re diehard fans. Korn isn’t just another band. We have to bring it every night, whether we’re at a small club or in front of hundreds of people.”

Ray is a breath of fresh air for the band, I personally love him, watching the members leave for the past couple of years really made me feel lost with the band but now that has changed we needed ray big time!

Ray is right KoRn isn't just another band. they are a life line a way of life. There isn't another band out there that makes me feel like KoRn does that creates that passion and dedication I feel towards them. Ray fits great with the band and I love him to pieces.
