The Spanish interviews keep pouring in because of the upcoming show in Caracas! Here is another one. Again translated by our good friend kornygerm!
During March of 2002, Korn made their first perfomance in Venezuela, within the framework of the Caracas pop festival, in front of a huge and amazed crowd where they enjoyed to the max what it might have been one of the best rock shows of the decade in this country.
This upcoming January 28th, they are back, from the hands of Solid Show Productions, At the so called Solid Fest.
Melanio Escobar from OidosSucios.Com
, had an exclusive phone chat with their leader and vocalist, Jonathan Davis. Take a look for his plans in Caracas, musical tastes, and his opinion about Chavez. Chavez.
¿What’s been different about Korn since your show in Caracas eight years ago.
8 years? Has it really been that long (laughs) well a lot of things have changed, the band it’s not the same, there’s a new drummer, new guitar player. That’s basically what has changed, everything else? Nah
How do you feel about the new influence that Korn had during an entire generation?
It’s overwhelming, completely overwhelming. We weren’t expecting these to happen, we were just making music we loved and everything was nuts.
Nu Metal came and went, but Korn kept rocking. What is the secret?
I think there are no secrets, do what you love and stay loyal to what you are is what makes everything work; besides our fans are great. Thanks to them is where we are right now.
Is it hard for a band to go on without their original band members?
No, not all, actually it’s pretty, it’s all about going with the flow, making music with new members its fun.
What can we expect with the new album? The fact that you guys are working with Ross Robinson again means Korn is coming back to its roots?
Totally, it’s a turn to the old school sound; we are re-taking of what made Korn what it made Korn to be today.
Do you feel the pressure of what you accomplished 10 years ago? ¿Is it hard to have that past? Yes, I sure feel the pressure, but I try not to over think about it, put it aside, in a way, otherwise, it will get in the way with the creative process of the band and that’s the least we want, like I told you, we try to do what we like, what make us happy and that’s how we roll.
When’s the next album coming out?
We are still working on it, so for the label’s reason we don’t have a definite release date, but it will sure be out in the streets this year.
Do you love to play the old songs?
Yes we do, we love it.
Are you playing any new songs on the Caracas show?
No, we want to save those songs when the new album is out, we are doing a mix of all the songs along the way of our career
Do you Remember the opening act eight years ago?
No, we didn’t have the chance to watched em play.
Well, the band that opened that year was “Candy 66” and they will play again with you guys. Do you ever listen to your opening bands?
Well, we always try to hear at least one song. This year we will.
Candy 66 and Korn I think they will make the same magic that happened in the first show.
Definitely, you will see magic, the same from before or better yet
I remember when you guys use for the artwork for the ISSUES album, one of the Works from a fan let me speechless. Do you have any plans to do something for the new record?
Yep, that was really cool, I think with the new album we will also include something with fan interaction, we love to do that kind of things, I think we will.
There is a Korn poster at the Hard Rock Café of Miami. Is it true you guys send it?
Yup, its 100% real.
I always believed it was a Hard Rock Café Myth.
I have two friends which have the korn logo tattoo on their asses. How do you feel when someone has a tattoo with the name of the band? (Jajaja). Really? Well, for us it’s an honor, it’s a commitment from the real fans, it’s something for your whole life and we appreciated very much. In fact we have a website where the people sends their tattoos and I always get in to check it out, something that gives me lots of pride.
The HIV tattoo that you have on your arm has been useful for you?
Of course, there are a lot of women that can be infected with the virus and this tattoo is a constant reminder that I shouldn’t more than ordinary stuff (laughs).
Have you heard about our president? What will you do if you were president of Venezuela?
Hugo Chavez? Definitely, we’ve heard a lot of his craziness, but we are not a band that is into politics. Personally, I love the people and if I was their president I think that’s what I will try to show them.
Do you have any regrets, musically speaking?
no regrets, I think everything we have done has been one step closer to the next goal. It has brought us to what we are today
Why are you starting the tour on South America?
Well, the truth is that they called us and asked if we wanted to play in Caracas y and we said, sure, we’d love to be there, so we agree to do a new show
What bands are you listening to right now? What’s on your IPod?
Former Limp Bizkit guitar player Wes Borland’s band. “Black light Burns” It’s one of my favorites right now and this girl, Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga? Well, it’s been said she’s the Marilyn Manson of pop.
Totally, I love everything she does, her thing with the clothing, the songs, the way she makes pop music not to be total crap, I believe its super smart. I think she is one of the most innovative artists of today and now that you say so, yes, (laughs), I believe she is the Marilyn Mason of pop.
Thank you for everything Jonathan. Got any messages to the fans?
Kids, we love you. We are very anxious to see you on this show. Expect the best from us and a first class show.
